G-Nidium is the current mount of equine veterinarian, TRC judge and dressage rider Rafael Ortiz. They are also the current Spanish National Dressage Champions G-Nidium is described as a versatile horse that captivates and is liked by the public and the judges alike. On the dressage circuit he wins at International Grand Prix level, at home on the farm he is the sire of exceptional offspring and in his spare time he volunteers as therapeutic mount for disabled children. This is a perfect example of the Pure Spanish Horse. G-Nidium is a classified breeding stallion, bred by Ventura Camacho Benitez. He is out of the mare Dafne, the absolute movement champion at SICAB 1991, which also makes him the half brother (on the dam’s side) of Cava-Illes currently ridden by Victor Alvarez. His sire, Pediguero, was the bullfighting mount of Javier Buendia. Rafael Ortiz followed the development of G-Nidium from the moment he was backed and progressed his training to Prix St. George level. Finally, one day, he became involved, initially has his trainer and since January 2004 as his rider.Jan Bemelsman had an eye on this combination to represent Spain during the World Equestrian Games in Aachen 2006, but an injury earlier that year forced them to stay in Spain. However, the objective was to be ready to compete at the Spanish National Championships in Oviedo, later that year. Currently, G-Nidium is owned by Yeguada de Azores, where his owner is more than happy with the offspring G-Nidium produces. All show correct built, good legs and height. All appear to inherit their sire’s expressive movement, and some even showing exceptional movement. G-Nidium himself, shows many characteristics of a prototypical PRE in both morphology and temperament: very good neck insertion at the withers, elastic back with well sloped croup, solid legs good balance, three very good basic gaits, his changes of leg are very good and straight. |

International Sporting Achievements |

During the Olympics in Atlanta 1996, the first purebred Spanish horses were part of the Spanish Dressage Team. Their names were Evento, Tlamenco and Invasor (the latter as reserve). Invasor was the youngst horse of all those entered for dressage, which is an example of the breed's intelligence and will to work. Syndey 2000 was the next step, the team included Invasor and Distinguido and finished in 7th place.
Spain's development exploded at the 2002 WEG at Jerez de la Frontera, where the team won the bronze medal, again with Invasor and Distingido. In 2004 at the Athen's Olympics the Spanish dressage team won the silver medal, only being beaten by Germany. In Competition Carriage Driving, the Spanish Horse has participated in several world championships, with Juan Robles and Antonio Carrillo being the most outstanding drivers.

The PRE horse can be serious competition horse. The PRE horse had fallen out of favour with competitive dressage riders a few decades ago. However, since the 1990s this breed has taken the competitive scene by storm and is now one of the most popular breed in Continental Europe and the UK, also gaining an ever increasing following in the pleasure riding circles.
